Why we built this

"We were paying $6 a month for a tracker that missed short trips and kept pushing us toward a pricier plan. For a tax log."

"So we built MileageBuddy. Multi-signal detection that catches the drives other trackers miss, flat pricing, and no upsells."

How it works

Three steps. Then drive.

01

Enable tracking once

Grant background location. That's the last setup step — the app handles the rest.

02

Drive your routes

Multi-signal detection catches starts and stops without draining your battery.

03

Export at tax time

Categorize as you go or in bulk. Export an IRS-ready PDF or CSV in one tap.

How we compare

Questions, answered

How is MileageBuddy different from MileIQ or Everlance?

+

MileageBuddy uses multi-signal detection (GPS + motion + device state) for better accuracy on short trips and transitions GPS-only trackers commonly miss. Flat $7.99/mo with no per-trip fees, no tiered plans, and no account required to get started.

Is MileageBuddy a good MileIQ alternative?

+

Yes. MileageBuddy matches MileIQ on unlimited trips and IRS-ready reports at a flat $7.99/mo with no per-trip limits, and adds multi-signal trip detection for better accuracy on short drives. See our full MileIQ comparison.

Does MileageBuddy sell my location data?

+

No. We don't sell, share, or use your trip data for advertising. We make money from the subscription, not from your data.

How does automatic mileage tracking work?

+

We fuse GPS, motion coprocessor data, and device state to detect when a drive starts and ends. That combination catches short trips and transitions that GPS-only trackers commonly miss — without hammering your battery.

Does MileageBuddy work without an internet connection?

+

Yes. You can drive, log, categorize, and export mileage without a network connection. Trips sync up whenever you're back online.

Will MileageBuddy drain my battery?

+

No. We use Apple's low-power motion and significant-location APIs so the app sleeps when you're stationary and only wakes when needed. Typical users see single-digit percentage impact on battery per day.

Are the reports IRS-compliant?

+

Yes. Reports include everything the IRS requires: date, time, start and end locations, distance, and business purpose. Export to PDF or CSV for your accountant or tax software.

What does the IRS require in a mileage log?

+

The IRS requires four things for each business trip: (1) the date of the trip, (2) the miles driven, (3) the business destination, and (4) the business purpose. MileageBuddy captures all four automatically when a drive is detected — you only add the purpose.

Can I use MileageBuddy for Uber, DoorDash, or Lyft?

+

Yes. MileageBuddy is built for independent drivers — rideshare (Uber, Lyft), delivery (DoorDash, Uber Eats, Instacart, Amazon Flex), and any other 1099 driving. It tracks every business drive automatically, regardless of which platform you're working on. See our guide for Uber drivers.

Is MileageBuddy cheaper than MileIQ?

+

Yes. MileageBuddy is $7.99/month flat with unlimited trips. MileIQ starts at $8.99/month. Founding members of MileageBuddy lock in launch pricing for life, even when the price goes up for new users.

Does MileageBuddy work on iPad?

+

Yes. MileageBuddy runs on iPhone and iPad. Most drivers log their trips on iPhone while driving, then review, categorize, and export reports on iPad at tax time.

When will MileageBuddy launch?

+

We're in private testing now. Waitlist members will get first access, with a broader launch on the App Store shortly after. Join the waitlist and we'll email you the moment it's available.

Is MileageBuddy coming to Android?
